The Boston Center for the Arts completed the historic restoration of 238 windows in its Tremont Estates Building, situated in the heart of Boston's South End. To mark the occasion, the BCA Board of Directors, resident artists and the organizations that made the project possible gathered on Wednesday, October 31 to install the final window as part of a public ceremony celebrating the completion of the Window Restoration Project.The project was made possible by the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation through its partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Liberty Mutual and Building Restoration Services Corp.

When the Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) needed every window in their historic building restored, they turned to Building Restoration Services to complete the task.

How: Building Restoration Services enlisted the use of aerial lifts and meticulous craftsmanship.

EVALUATION
There are no shortcuts that can be taken when undergoing a complete window restoration project. Every window sash was carefully removed from the building and transported to Building Restoration Services’ restoration factory.

All of the windows were individually evaluated; in this project, windows from the rear of the building were in better condition because they were shielded from the elements.  


RESTORATION:
Rot, chips and cracks were meticulously repaired using epoxy.  Broken glass and warped wood was replaced, and every window was professionally sealed and painted.

Restoring one window can take up to three days from start to finish. 

If an original window had un-repairable damage, BRS built an exact replica of the window to replace it.

During the installation and finishing process masonry repair was done to the surrounding bricks and mortar to repair weather damage and decay.
